The Kyndryd Skynyrd Story
The seed was planted before the term “tribute band” was accepted in the music biz. Myself, a long time Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, and performer of their music since the 70’s, had no idea back then, that the industry would come around to embrace bands, specialising in mimicking musicians and singers to the extent of only playing that group, or singer’s songs at concerts, many to the point of theatrical look a-likes! After attending a gig at the NEC, not so long ago, which featured Lynyrd Skynyrd as support to Deep Purple; I was amazed at the quality of Skynyrd’s live performance. Something I had to get all my friends to witness and hear, but due to rare appearances in UK and Europe of Lynyrd Skynyrd, this would not be easy, by now though, tribute bands were accepted, and the idea was born.
A lot of research was carried out, into the viability of the project which begun in early 2006. This proved the ideal opportunity, and time to form the band, as the research found no serious opposition, since then, others have taken up the challenge which can only be good for the original Lynyrd Skynyrd classic form of guitar orientated rock music , a challenge in itself to reproduce accurately on stage. Pilot gigs are under way, and the response has been overwhelming, which has made all the ups and downs, months of auditions, careful selection of band members, rehearsals and recordings worthwhile. A special thanks to Ian, Mike, Gill, from CPW and Bruce of Winderton Studios, for all his help, flexibility and interest in this project. A plan has come together, which has enabled people in Europe to see what the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd is all about , without having to wait for years , performed by Kyndryd Skynyrd who are as good as……...well, I reckon that a good tribute band has to be every bit as good as the original if not better . Come along all you guitar, and live band fans, and see the standard set by KS, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
My own slant on the tribute band scene, it has provided extended employment to countless musicians young and old, encouraged the stars of the future to take up an instrument, and most of all provided entertainment to thousands, while promoting the live music scene, and keeping alive the songs and legends of musical heroes, both past and present, for fans who might never of had the opportunity to see their idols perform live on stage.
